NMES Training Offered for 2.0 ASHA CEU’s
Participants in the eSwallow NMES Training Course will understand and learn how to apply the fundamental principles of NMES therapy for the treatment of dysphagia. The program is a combination of 16 hours online coursework and 4 hours of hands-on training. Upon successful completion of the program, each SLP will be allowed to work with the NMES equipment while under the supervision of a previously certified SLP.
Computer Online Learning Environment
The use of multimedia content has been proven to be highly successful in the online learning environment. The training course demonstrates effective electrode placement specific to the dysphagia impairment. It also identifies the anatomical structures of the swallow mechanism and the disorders that cause difficulties in swallowing. eSwallow USA's staff of clinical advisors are available to answer questions as they arise and can be contacted using email or telephone.
Treatment of Dysphagia & Swallowing Disorders
The coursework will effectively teach participants the criteria for the use of NMES training to treat dysphagia. Swallowing difficulties result when muscle contractions between the mouth, tongue, throat, and esophagus do not function properly. NMES therapy re-educates the muscles to function and to rebuild strength after surgery or a period of disuse. eSwallow designed an e-stim unit to assist the treatment of dysphagia and can be purchased separate from this training course.
