Shawn graduated from Loma Linda University in 1998 with Masters in Physical Therapy, followed by his Doctorate degree from The College of St. Scholastica. Shawn has always had a passion for outpatient orthopaedic physical therapy and manual therapy. He was certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through NSCA in 1998. He completed a sports fellowship via Scripps Health – San Diego. He has taught the past two decades hundreds of certified con-ed courses throughout North America in manual therapy as one of the few level 3 certified Graston instructors; BFR and IASTM through Hawkgrips and for the Performance Health Academy in the area of functional rehab. Shawn has multiple courses online as an instructor through the MedBridge platform.
Shawn completed his doctorate research on home-exercise-programs (HEP) compliance and adherence, during which it was identified that HEP compliance is very poor (less effective them a placebo pill). This experience led him to set up JPI to focus on real time treatment of patients while limiting the guilt and pressure that comes from others expecting patients to do their “homework.” Shawn likes to say, “at JPI we will actually treat you… so you don’t have to do a HEP.”
