Who is APTQI?
APTQI is a group of therapists aligned in their vision for the future of their profession. According to their website, APTQI “unites community-based physical therapy practices to advocate for the profession in the areas of payment reform, quality initiatives, patient outcomes and innovation.”
APTQI’s Commitment to Physical Therapists
The alliance works to advocate for, support, and raise awareness of legislative initiatives and reforms that benefit physical therapy practitioners and patients. They do so by uniting and educating the physical therapy community and creating a shared set of policy goals and values.
What It Means for Performance Health to be a Partner
As a vendor affiliate member of APTQI, we are supporting the coalition’s efforts to advocate for positive legislative and regulatory change that will support physical therapy professionals and their patients across the United States.
“We are honored to join APTQI as their first vendor affiliate member and look forward to supporting their mission to protect access to quality physical therapy for all who need care,” said Greg Nulty, CEO of Performance Health. “Joining APTQI as a vendor affiliate member advances our company’s mission to help people feel good, perform better, and live their best. Advocacy is a critical element to achieving that mission by calling for public policies that enable access to the healthcare and tools individuals need to rehabilitate, recover, and remain strong and independent while aging.”
How You Can Also Offer Your Support
The efforts of APTQI are achieved by working together to ensure patient access to value driven physical therapy care. You can make your voice heard and lend your support to the efforts of APTQI and Performance Health by keeping an eye on the Take Action page of APTQI’s website.
The first initiative that Performance Health supported with APTQI was an effort to prevent Medicare cuts. A 3.37% cut to Medicare payments went into effect on January 1. These cuts threatened to exacerbate existing challenges and present further obstacles for patients to obtain the care they need. A group of senators sent a letter opposing the cuts and Congress advanced a partial fix to the cuts of a 1.68% payment increase.
At the time of this article’s publication, we are working to support APTQI in their effort to raise awareness of the Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly (SAFE) Act. Through their website, you can send a pre-written letter to your State Representative asking them to support this important legislation that would allow Medicare recipients to receive free fall risk assessments and physical therapy care that will reduce the number of falls currently seen among our elderly population.
