What You Need for Working Out at Home

Want to exercise from the comfort of your own home? You don’t need a lot of space or equipment. Get started with these home gym equipment and exercise suggestions!

Cardio Exercises

Cardiovascular exercise includes any exercise that raises your heart rate for an extended period of time and works your lungs.1 You don’t need to make a large financial investment in a treadmill or exercise bike to work on your cardio at home.

It’s easy to get started at home with classic exercises like jumping jacks, jump roping, high knees, crab walks, lateral shuffles, and more.

If you’re looking for a low-impact way to exercise while working from home or watching tv, check out the Cubii!

This pedal elliptical comes in two versions, the Jr. and the Pro. The Cubii Pro works with an app on your phone to track your workout, while you can view your stats on the Cubii Jr.’s LCD display. It’s a great addition to a more intense cardio workout.

Looking for another cardio option? Get outside! Walking, jogging, running, and biking are all great ways to get some cardio and sunshine. You could even bring your dog for added fun!

If you need support while taking short walks, a collapsible rollator or Roami can give you the support you need to stay active.

Strengthening Exercises

If you’re used to weight machines and barbell sets at the gym, working out from home can be a bit of an adjustment.

Opt for a pair of dumbbells to save money and space. Add a TheraBand FlexBar to concentrate on your forearms and wrists too.

Or you could get started right away with bodyweight exercises, no equipment needed. These include your standard push ups, crunches, lunges, planks, and squats. But you could also try mountain climbers, jump squats, burpees, and more.

When you’re ready to kick your workout up a notch, start with resistance bands. They’re a low-cost, space saving solution that allows you to strengthen your muscles at home!

The non-latex TheraBand CLX resistance band is our top choice, thanks to the handy loops that allow you to perform a wide variety of exercises. Add a CLX Anchor for even more exercise options. Get started with the Exercise Everywhere video series!

Balance Exercises

Many people forget about including balance exercises as part of their workout routine, but they’re an important addition to a cardio and strength training regimen.

You can start simply by using a TheraBand Stability Disc to work on your seated balance and posture while sitting and doing work or eating a meal. You can use the same stability disc for these challenging standing exercises (if you’re looking for a slightly easier standing balance workout, start out with the firmer TheraBand Stability Trainers).

Another source for balance training is YouTube videos of yoga exercises and other balance exercises. You can add a thin yoga mat or a thicker exercise mat to enhance your comfort while working out.
